The Steelers plan to give Russell Wilson first-team reps to prepare for the start against the Jets over Justin Fields

“(Russell Wilson) will be considered this week. We’ll see where this takes us,” he said.

Tomlin later added: “I admit that Russ proved his health last week and we are looking closely at him this week. That’s up for consideration.”

Fields started the first six games of the season and helped the Steelers to a 4-2 start, but the offense was inconsistent, particularly through the air. Over the past two weeks, Fields has thrown for fewer than 150 yards and completed fewer than 60 percent of his passes. The doppelganger has done most of his damage with his legs, including two touchdowns in Sunday's win over Las Vegas.

“Justin was really good, and we were good at times, but not to be confused with great,” Tomlin told reporters Tuesday when asked why Fields didn't do enough to be named the starter despite a 4-2 record to become.

“It’s a competitive league, man. We're trying to position ourselves as that team and we have a player with talent who hasn't had the opportunity to play, so we'll explore those things.” Sometimes it has nothing to do with what Justin did or didn't do. Last week, for example, his ability to use his legs intentionally and at will saw him rush for more than 50 yards and two touchdowns. We appreciate the way he took care of the ball. We do the same thing at every position.”

The question for Tomlin is whether he thinks it might be worth giving up the dynamic rushing element that Fields provides if Wilson can bring more to the passing attack. It's also possible that the Steelers could use both QBs on Sunday night against the Jets, something Tomlin didn't rule out on Tuesday.
