The post office sets deadlines for sending Christmas presents

The U.S. Postal Service recently released its recommended dates for holiday shipping. So if you need to send gifts across the country or around the world, have these dates ready.

According to a press release, USPS has nearly tripled its daily package processing capacity since 2020.

The company plans to hire 7,500 seasonal workers (fewer than last year) and expand its fleet by more than 100,000 vehicles. Around two thirds of these vehicles will be zero-emission electric vehicles.

“Our operations, transportation and delivery processes have never been more finely tuned, and I have every confidence that we can once again handle the peak holiday season surge,” Postmaster General and CEO Louis DeJoy said in a statement.

What is the last day to ship packages on holidays?

Christmas Day on December 25th falls on a Wednesday this year. To ensure your cards and packages get where they need to go in the contiguous United States, send your gifts by these dates:

  • USPS Ground Advantage service: December 18th
  • First Class Postal Service: December 18th
  • Priority Mail service: December 19th
  • Priority Mail Express service: December 21st

If you are shipping to addresses in Hawaii or Alaska, you must ship via USPS Ground Advantage by December 16th and ship by Priority Mail Express by December 20th. First Class and Priority Mail have the same deadlines as the lower 48.

Military mail must be sent soon if you use USPS Ground Advantage by November 4th. First Class and Priority Mail must be mailed by December 9th, and Priority Mail Express Military Service must be mailed by December 16th.
