AFCON 2025: Black Stars' qualification hopes in jeopardy after defeat to Sudan

Ghana's hopes of making it to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) were dashed after defeat by Sudan on Tuesday, October 15.

The Black Stars lost 2-0 to the Falcons of Jediane in Libya on matchday four of the qualifying series.

Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud scored the first goal for the Falcons of Jediane in the 62nd minute after a failed clearance attempt in the Ghana penalty area led to a mix-up.

The striker took advantage of Gideon Mensah's free throw from the line to shoot into the empty net and make the final score 1-0.

Three minutes later the home team doubled their lead. This time Mohamed Abdelrahman defeated Mohammed Salisu before defeating Lawrence Ati-Zigo to make it 2-0.

Inaki almost reduced the deficit for Ghana but his volley from Tariq Lamptey's cross went wide of the post.

Despite the team's efforts in the latter stages of the game, Otto Addo's men were unable to score a goal as the game ended 2-0.

The defeat means Ghana needs more results and hopes they can win all their games against Niger and Angola during the November international break.

The Black Stars sit third in Group F with just two points from four games, two draws and two defeats.
