The Jets are acquiring Davante Adams from the Raiders, according to AP sources

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are finally reunited after more than two years apart and a year of speculation – and now they'll try to save it New York Jets ' sinking season.

The Jets acquired the disgruntled Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, giving up a conditional third-round pick in next year's draft that could become a second-rounder.

“We're back, man,” Adams said as he briefly visited Rodgers at the Jets' facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, for the quarterback's weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “We’re back.”

The deal was agreed to Tuesday morning and was contingent on Adams passing his physical exam. A few hours later, the teams officially announced the trade.

“Obviously I’m really excited,” said Rodgers, who spoke to Adams a few hours later the Jets' 23:20 loss to Buffalo on Monday night and the wide receiver informed him that he would be joining him in New York.

“I love Tae,” the quarterback added. “He’s a phenomenal player and a dear friend.”

The 31-year-old Adams immediately bolsters the Jets' offense, which was inconsistent in the first half of the season. The three-time All-Pro joins Garrett Wilson to give Rodgers two No. 1-caliber wide receivers to throw to. He complements fellow receivers Mike Williams, Allen Lazard and Xavier Gipson, tight end Tyler Conklin and running backs Breece Hall and Braelon Allen.

“Now it’s up to us,” Rodgers said. “We’re going all in.”

Adams, who had missed the Raiders' last three games with a hamstring injury, reportedly told the team he wanted to leave Las Vegas — and the team was willing to honor his request.

“I feel great, man,” Adams said, adding that he got a lot of treatment from the Raiders’ training staff. “Luckily I can roll.”

Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said he was “overjoyed” that Adams had joined the team, but added that it was too early to assess whether the wide receiver would be ready to play Sunday night in Pittsburgh .

And Adams is back with Rodgers, the quarterback he caught passes with for eight seasons in Green Bay.

“He made me look good a lot of times,” Rodgers said. “We got better today.”

It seemed inevitable, especially when the Jets reportedly showed interest in Adams at the NFL trade deadline last year. Rodgers said at a celebrity golf tournament this summer: “I love Davante. I can't wait to play with him again.” With a smile, Rodgers said during training camp that he meant the golf course, but it was enough to fuel speculation that the Jets would eventually – somehow – get Adams.

The deal came less than 12 hours after the Jets' loss to the Bills, a game in which Rodgers threw a Hail Mary just before halftime but was also intercepted for the second straight time on New York's final drive. It was a game marked by penalties, errors and missed opportunities on offense, leaving the Jets down to 2-4 after a three-game deficit.

“It’s frustrating,” Rodgers said. “I'm here to win these games, but we have to keep an eye on our details. It’s little things every time.”

The trade also caps a turbulent last seven days for the Jets. Two days after the loss to Minnesota in London, owner Woody Johnson Head coach Robert Saleh fired On Tuesday, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was hired to replace him. Ulbrich then demoted offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and replaced him with passing game coordinator Todd Downing on Wednesday.

And now the Jets have made a big deal to bring in Adams, one of Rodgers' best friends and favorite teammates. Adams caught 615 passes from Rodgers for 7,517 yards and 68 touchdowns, all in Green Bay. This is the highest value of all combinations of active players in all three categories.

Adams' departure from Las Vegas was expected after reports surfaced that he no longer wanted to be there — and the Jets immediately became a likely landing spot because of his relationship with Rodgers.

During his weekly appearance on the “Up & Adams Show” two weeks ago, Adams said he hadn't heard from Antonio Pierce since he became Raiders coach seemed to like a social media post about the possible Adams trade.

That was the first sure sign that a split could occur, although an Adams trade has long been speculated, as he has made several statements for more than a year. This included clear frustration, which he showed in the Netflix documentary series “Receiver,” which also featured Adams’ season.

Adams remains one of the NFL's top receivers at nearly 32 years old, as he executes precise routes and catches passes even when double-teamed. Last season he caught 103 passes for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns. It was his fifth 1,000-yard season in six years, broken only by the 997 yards Adams had in 2019.

He caught 18 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown in three games this season.

The Raiders gave up a large transport in 2022 to get Adams when they sent first- and second-round picks to the Packers in that year's draft, making Adams the highest-paid receiver at the time with a five-year, $140 million contract with nearly $66 million guaranteed .

His final two years, 2025 and 2026, are not guaranteed. According to Spotrac, Adams' salary cap number increases from $25.35 million this season to $44.1 million each of the next two years. ESPN reported that the Jets will cover the balance of Adams' remaining salary, but it's possible the teams could agree to a contract restructuring to lower the wide receiver's cap hit for this season.

“I’m sure there are some new little nuances,” Adams said of being integrated into New York’s offense. “But mostly the same vocabulary. It's still the same original here, so we should be able to pick up where we left off. You know, that’s the idea.”
