PSPS is possible in all Northstate communities during expected dry, windy weather

PSPS is possible in all Northstate communities during expected dry, windy weather

Some Pacific Gas and Electric customers across the northern state may be affected by a public safety shutdown (PSPS) through the end of the week as drier and windier weather is expected.

PG&E's website said Tuesday that PSPS is not expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, as of Thursday, 12 counties are at increased risk of PSPS, including Colusa, Glenn, Mendocino, Shasta and Tehama counties.

By Friday and Saturday, the list will double to 30 counties, adding Butte and Plumas counties. The list will be reduced to 20 counties by Saturday and may still include Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Mendocino, Plumas, Shasta and Tehama counties.

The utility states that specific addresses, maps and other blocking details are usually available two days before the blocking occurs. Click here to learn more about areas potentially affected by the PSPS.

PG&E plans a PSPS when there is a possibility that severe weather events, such as high winds, could cause a tree or debris to damage equipment and start a dry vegetation fire. Criteria includes low humidity, forecast strong winds, dry material on the ground, vegetation near power lines, a National Weather Service red flag warning, or other real-time observations from ground teams and weather experts.
