Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe responds to reports of rape allegations | World News

Kylian Mbappe's representatives have made “completely false and irresponsible” accusations after it was claimed the football star was being investigated over an alleged rape.

This follows reports that the police in Sweden are investigating allegations made against the Real Madrid striker after he visited Stockholm last week.

Swedish prosecutors have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into an alleged rape at a hotel in the city, but did not name the suspect.

Reacting to the reports, a spokesperson for the player said: “A new defamatory rumor is spreading on the internet.”

“These allegations are completely false and irresponsible, and their dissemination is unacceptable.”

They added: “Kylian Mbappe will not, under any circumstances, tolerate his integrity, reputation and honor being tarnished by unfounded allegations.”

On Monday, the French world champion A link to a French media article related to the reports was also published, along with the words: “FAKE NEWS”.

He added: “It's becoming so predictable…”

Swedish public broadcaster SVT, along with newspapers Expressen and Aftonbladet, had previously reported that the 25-year-old was a suspect in the case.

Mbappe trained with us real Madrid on Tuesday. The club has not yet commented on the reports.

His lawyer Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard told French television channel TF1 on Tuesday: “We don't know who the complaint is against, I don't know if the complaint is against him.”

“He is never alone, he is never exposed to a risky situation. It is completely impossible that there could have been any reprehensible behavior on his part. It’s an absolute certainty.”

“He is calm but speechless about the media hype. He doesn’t understand what he can be accused of.”

She added that Mbappe would cooperate with Swedish authorities if he were directly targeted by an investigation, but added: “He has done nothing wrong.”

France coach Didier Deschamps described the reports as “obviously not a good thing for the French team” when asked about the allegations at a press conference on Monday.
