Ahead of FBI: Most Wanted's Season 6 premiere "Terrifying Fugitive," the showrunner delivers the relationship updates we've been waiting for

CBS is bringing this FBI Block back to prime time in the TV schedule 2024, and FBI: Most Wanted is not holding back and is off to a shocking start with the sixth season premiere on October 15th. Showrunner David Hudgins not only spoke to CinemaBlend about the fugitive the team will be hunting this week, but also gave some relationship status updates Fans have no doubt been waiting since Season 5 ended with a wedding.

The sixth season premiere is called “Aquarium Drinker,” the plot begins with the brutal murder of a detective, and the episode doesn’t exactly get any less gruesome as the hour goes on. When I spoke to David Hudgins about it Most wantedReturning to CBS, he revealed what to expect from the premiere's villain:

Here's the thing. Season 6 opens with a frightening refugee, which we did on purpose. We wanted to have a really impressive guy and make sure there were really big stakes.

Like anyone who tuned in to any or all of the first five seasons of FBI: Most Wanted (Now available to stream with a Peacock subscription) knows that this series is never short of fearsome villains. But the stakes are particularly high in this premiere, and not just because of the fugitive, who Hudgins described as “terrifying.”

With the return of Susan Misner as Abby, Most wanted will also be able to reveal some new layers to her relationship with Remy. The showrunner revealed what their romance looks like after the roughly three-month time jump:

The reality is that Remy and Abby are still together, and they do the long distance thing, and it works. But the question for them this year is: Will Remy be able to overcome the long distance thing? I think he wants to. I think he loves her. I think she loves him. For Remy, it's a question of, “Can I put someone else above my work, or at least on the same pedestal as my work?” So they have a nice arc this season where they'll try to figure it out together.

Since Dylan McDermott joined, Remy has prioritized work over his personal life for most of his time on the show FBI: Most Wanted to replace Julian McMahon. Whether Abby will be the woman to realign his priorities remains to be seen. As for Hana, David Hudgins confirmed that “Hana is still with Ethan,” refuting my suspicions from late in season five that Michael Raymond-James' character was too good to be true.

I would hardly have described “Too Good” as one of Barnes' personal stories from Season 5, as she has separated from her wife and is arguing about whether the children would go with Charlotte or stay with Barnes. The showrunner previewed the new status quo for Barnes and showed where there is room for growth:

Barnes is the one who is now divorced. Your kids are in DC. We have a story with Barnes this year and we're trying to figure out what her identity is. “Who am I?” She is no longer a wife. She's still a mother, but she's single, and instead of just wallowing in her pity, she's going to do something about it and get out. So she'll meet some people and we'll tell some fun stories where we really take Barnes to places she's never been before.

Washington, DC and New York City aren't exactly on opposite sides of the country, but in the context of Barnes' job, it's certainly a distance! Luckily for Ray and Cora, their marriage will be much stronger than Barnes and Charlotte's last season. After the Season 5 finale celebrated their wedding, David Hudgins teased what to expect from Season 6:

And then Ray and Cora, newly married, are together. Her story this year is truly a Caleb parenting story. Ray is not his real father. He is his stepfather. We get to meet Caleb's real father and that creates some tension in the relationship.

Actor Edwin Hodge praised Ray's commitment to Caleb FBI: Most Wanted So introducing Steven Williams as Ray's father sounds like a meaty storyline for the actor. As for Nina, her relationship with Scola was going well after some conflicts last season, and this time there will be some new complications. Hudgins shared:

And then Nina and Scola do their thing. You are not married. We have written stories with Nina in the past about her relationship with Scola. This year's story is about her own family. We get to meet her father early on, he's visiting from Houston with Nina's sister and he doesn't get along with Scola. Scola is somehow blue-blooded. This guy is a pretty simple man from Texas. It's just a very entertaining story that leads you to learn a lot about Nina's past and has a very emotional story with her sister.

It will be interesting to see if any of Scola's problems persist FBI Will influence Nina Most wanted at all; John Boyd's comments on FBI Season 7 hints at an impending struggle for Scola after he loses Tiff as his partner. All in all, it sounds like David Hudgins and Co. have what it takes to tell character-driven stories in addition to the usual cases of the week with scary villains.
