England took three wickets in the first session on the second day in Multan, but Pakistan were helped by useful lower-order contributions as they moved to 358/8 at lunch. Pakistan scored 99 runs in the 27 overs bowled in the session, translating into a run rate of 3.66 per over.

England fell behind early in the morning after Matthew Potts hit Mohammad Rizwan on the pad. The batsman then hit a boundary through cover point to reach the 40s. However, Rizwan's performance ended soon after when Brydon Carse found the outside edge with a short ball throw.

Agha Salman, who was at 6 off 29 at the time of Rizwan's dismissal, switched gears as he hit a flurry of boundaries. He received good support from Aamer Jamal at the other end as the pair built a stable partnership for the seventh wicket.

Salman used the field to his advantage, guiding a couple of balls from Matthew Potts to the third man and helping Pakistan cross the 300-mark. But Potts had the last laugh when he got Salman to curl past the keeper with a delivery that had more bounce to it, ending a 38-run stand. Shortly after the drinks break, Pakistan lost their eighth wicket when Sajid Khan was dragged into a drive by Jack Leach and ended up throwing the ball to cover.

Jamal then fended off a couple of short balls from Potts for boundaries and was joined by Noman Ali, also hitting regular fours, in a useful ninth-wicket partnership that took Pakistan over 350. They extended their partnership to 49 and both were unbeaten at lunchtime, having hit nine fours between them.

Short results: Pakistan 358/8 (Kamran Ghulam 118, Saim Ayub 77, Mohammad Rizwan 41; Jack Leach 3-114, Brydon Carse 2-43, Matthew Potts 2-65) against England.
