A Colorado girl whose body parts were discovered in a freezer earlier this year was identified Friday, police said.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office announced that Amanda Leariel Overstreet was the girl whose head and hands were found in a freezer in January.

Overstreet had not been seen or heard from since April 2005, although the office said it had no record of her being reported missing. According to the Sherrif's office, she was the biological daughter of the home's previous owners.

The body parts were found when the owners of the house, which had recently been sold at the time the body parts were found, attempted to give away the freezer. The sheriff's office noted in a Facebook post that the current owners are “completely independent” of the case.

“The home was purchased, completely remodeled and sold to the current owner,” the office said.

The home is in Grand Junction, about 240 miles west of Denver in the state's Western Slope region.

Overstreet's disappearance remains under investigation, according to the announcement.
