Hayley Erbert is back in the ballroom.

The 30-year-old “So You Think You Can Dance” alum made her triumphant return to “Dancing with the Stars” on Tuesday to perform a contemporary number to an acoustic version of “Beautiful Things” with her husband and “DWTS” judge Derek Hough. to perform. by Benson Boone.

The performance came 10 months after Hough's social media posts in December in which he described a post-Symphony of Dance tour stop during which his wife became disoriented and taken to the hospital. There, “she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma due to a ruptured blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.”

In a pre-dance package Tuesday for “Dedication Night,” Hough discussed his wife's road to recovery, saying Season 32 of “DWTS” just ended and they were “with the person we love “Doing what we loved” when tragedy struck.

“Everything came to a devastating halt,” Hough recalls.

He continued, “I was on stage and she was supposed to come out and the stage manager walked out and just said, 'Hey, she's not coming on stage.' She found herself on the side of the stage, having severe seizures and basically dying. It’s really hard to put into words other than pure fear.”

He continued, “We rush her to the hospital, she's still in her costume, and the doctor came to me and said, 'She's got a serious brain bleed, so we need to operate right away.'” Hough recalled the doctors ” said that she might not make it and that even if she did, she wouldn’t be the same person.”

“He told me, 'You've basically lost the person you knew,'” Hough said, tearfully recalling how he “begged” on the hospital floor and pleaded with Erbert, “Please don't go.”

Hough said his wife was “unrecognizable” the next morning after surgery and was missing 40% of her skull. However, when she woke up, Hough said, Erbert remembered that before her hospitalization they had “just danced” and he had his wife “back.”

Erbert, a former member of the dance group “DWTS,” appears regularly on “DWTS” and on tour with her husband. She learned how to walk with a helmet again, and Hough called her “my beautiful miracle” before Erbert appeared on camera.

“I was determined to push myself to the limit to be able to dance again,” said Erbert. “To say it was easy to get there would be a complete lie. I will forever be grateful to everyone who supported me along the way. That’s why I’m here today.”
