Harris' Fox interview begins with fireworks as she gets into a heated exchange about border security

Kamala Harris sat down for her first interview with Fox News on Wednesday and opened the conversation with a heated exchange about immigration.

In his first question, moderator Bret Baier asked Harris how many “illegal immigrants” she estimated had entered the U.S. during her term as vice president. Then the two got into a back and forth.

“Well, I’m glad you brought up the issue of immigration because I agree with you,” Harris replied. “It’s a topic of discussion that people rightly want to have.”

Baier interrupted him and asked for “just one number.”

“Brett, let’s just get to the point,” Harris replied.

The two continued to talk back and forth, with Harris interjecting at one point, “You'll have to let me finish.”

Baier later asked Harris if she supported “using taxpayer dollars to help prison inmates or detained illegal immigrants transition to a different gender.” The question comes after a 2019 questionnaire Harris filled out came to light. Her answers, given during her tenure in the Senate, showed that she supported using taxes to fund gender-specific care for federal prisoners and detained immigrants.

Harris responded to Baier by pointing out that incarcerated people received gender-equitable health care under her opponent Donald Trump.

“I'm going to follow the law, and it's a law that Donald Trump actually followed, you're probably familiar with it by now,” Harris said. “It is a public record that under the Donald Trump administration, these surgeries were available to people in the federal prison system when medically necessary.”

This conversation marks the first time Harris has sat down with the media network.

Last week, Harris' interview with journalist Bill Whitaker appeared on CBS News 60 minutes. CBS also invited Trump to appear, but he declined and later baselessly accused the network of committing a crime, claiming they had “cut up” the interview.
