Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins achieves historic achievement

The Pittsburgh Penguins' top duo, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, have each enjoyed careers filled with awards and success. While both players are nearing the end of their NHL days, it's becoming commonplace for both to reach new milestones as they climb the all-time goalscoring list.

Malkin achieved his latest historic performance for the Penguins when he scored his 500th NHL goal against the Buffalo Sabres. It was a sensational performance from Malkin as he followed up his own shot and buried the rebound to secure the win. After the game, all of his teammates left the bench to congratulate Geno and he saluted the crowd in attendance.

With his latest tally, Malkin becomes the 48th player in league history to score 500 goals and only the second NHL player from Russia to achieve the feat. He is now tied with former Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs legend and current Hockey Hall of Fame chairman Lanny McDonald on the all-time goalscoring list.

With so much of the 2024-2025 season left to play, Malkin can climb even further up the all-time scoring list. At 38, he is still one of the Penguins' best players as he and Crosby continue to defy their age to become top players. The veteran of over 1,100 NHL games is a sure bet for the NHL Hall of Fame, but he's not ready to hang up his skates just yet. He is coming off a 67-point season in 2023-2024 and it looks like the production will continue this year. He scored two goals and seven assists in his first five games.

The Penguins hope that Malkin and Crosby can secure another trip to the Stanley Cup. With Crosby signing a new contract this summer and Malkin's contract still running for a few years, the duo will get at least one more chance. If both continue to play at this level, the Pens will still have a chance at the postseason.
