PHILADELPHIA – After suffering a serious fall near the end of Wednesday's preseason win over the Brooklyn Nets, 76ers first-round pick Jared McCain was taken to a hospital to be checked for a concussion, among other things, after appearing to struggle again to catch your breath court.

“It was tough,” 76ers coach Nick Nurse said. “He goes to the hospital to get checked. “Obviously he was having trouble breathing there, maybe he ran out of breath, I'm not sure what was going on, but I've never seen anything like that before, so let's hope he's okay.” Report from the hospital is.

McCain, who had 9 points and 7 rebounds in 23 minutes, drove to the basket in the final minutes of the fourth quarter and fell back after colliding with a Nets defender and appeared to hit his head and back violently on the floor at the Wells Fargo Center .

He lay there for several minutes, coughing and appearing to have real difficulty catching his breath, before he finally got to his feet and was helped off the pitch.

The 76ers said he is being evaluated by the team's medical staff, including for a concussion, and will not be available after the game.

The 20-year-old McCain was the 16th pick in the NBA draft out of Duke in June and has averaged 12.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in five preseason games for the 76ers this month.
