The singer died after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, local police said.

In the letter, re-shared by Radio 1 on Instagram today, Payne said: “Get ready, things are about to get a bit bumpy.

“Enjoy every moment with your loved ones because there are few family vacations left to enjoy and life will soon become surreal.

“You know what you love, singing, keep it up, when you turn 14 something magical will happen and I'm not talking about puberty.

“Not only will you be auditioning for one of the biggest music shows in the world, but you'll also be meeting your child's future mother (then X Factor judge Cheryl Tweedy).

“I know it seems early, but believe me, everything will turn out as it should. I suggest you watch Back to the Future, it might be helpful.

“You're famous now, and it feels like you've peaked far too soon, you conceited little bastard, but you've barely started yet. Slow down and remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint.

“Let me tell you, this isn't even base camp, and for a while you'll feel like you're giving up, but don't, because you're about to meet four of the guys on the same route as you.

“There will be chaos when you first meet her, but remember to have fun and stay young at heart because that's what it's all about at this point in your life.

“Forgive more and learn to listen. You will have the best time of your life, travel the world and live a life you could hardly have imagined.

“Then it will be over for a while and all you will be left with is the steering wheel. It will feel scary, like you are alone, but you are not.

“You are about to begin a whole new journey with the greatest person you have ever met, your son Bear.”

He went on to tell his younger self, “Don't doubt yourself with this dad thing,” adding, “You have a lot to give.”

Payne ended by saying, “Be grateful and try to remind yourself every day that you are doing something you love that took 10 years to build.

“The first single will skyrocket and you'll never see it coming, you'll stop doubting yourself and you'll be fine.

“Give mom, dad and the whole family a big hug from me.”
