Coastal flood warning for three New Jersey counties for Friday

The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood warning at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, effective for Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May counties from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

“Flooding of up to a foot above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near coastlines and tidal waterways,” the weather service says. “Tides will remain elevated and there is a potential for further minor coastal flooding around high tide this weekend.”

“At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, as well as along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or complete road closures are possible,” the weather service added. “If travel is necessary, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary measures to protect flood-prone property.”
