Rachel Bay Jones from Georgie and Mandy's 1st Marriage Teases TBBT Cameos

Georgie and Mandy's first marriage is a spin-off from The Big Bang Theory And Young SheldonSo it's only natural that there will be cameo appearances throughout the series.

Rachel Bay Joneswho plays Audrey in the upcoming CBS series, exclusively told Us weekly around Annie Potts And Zoe Perrys appearance in the pilot – and whether there are plans to return again.

“I love them all and they will definitely come back. We just shot and finished the fifth episode and a lot (Young Sheldon) graduates were there for it,” Jones, 54, teased about the actresses who play Mary Cooper and Meemaw, respectively. “We did a Thanksgiving episode with everyone and it was heavenly.”

“If Meemaw and Audrey could join in, that would make me really happy because I love Annie Potts more than almost anyone on the planet,” she continued. “It would be really fun to continue playing with her. And we are promised their presence because it is a small town so there is no escaping all the other residents.”

As she considers her path to joining Georgie and Mandy's first marriageJones revealed the connection she had to the The Big Bang Theory Universe.

“Annie Potts is one of my best friends, so obviously I knew about it Young Sheldon from the beginning and was a big fan of the show. Then she introduced me to this whole world. She’s the one who called the casting director,” the actress revealed. “They needed a mother for Mandy and offered me this role, which I thought would only be one or two episodes. Of course I loved (the character). She is completely different than me. She's a little grumpier and says things that she might not mean but that come across as wrong. I just loved being part of this family, even for a little while. The fact that it continued to grow and became part of this spin-off with Georgie and Mandy is fantastic.”

Young Sheldon was picked up by CBS as a prequel to The Big Bang Theory. The follow-up focused on Sheldon (Iain Armitage) as a child prodigy growing up in Texas. Fans met Sheldon's brother Georgie (Montana Jordan) and then devoted himself to his love story with Mandy (Emily Osment). Young Sheldon ended in 2024 – but the franchise continued to expand Georgie and Mandy's first marriage.

“Young Sheldon was a single-camera comedy, which is what we think of when we think of television and film. The camera moves around the set and the multi-camera comedy (am Georgie and Mandy's first marriage) is designed to be performed in front of an audience,” Jones explained. “There’s not just a laugh track – they just record the audience laughter that happens when we record the show, which is amazing. Many people don't know that it's not a canned laugh and that it's not fake. So they know the moment we perform it in front of the audience that if a joke doesn't work as well as they want it to or if they want to try something different, it's all happening in real time.”

Jones is looking forward to fans of Young Sheldon to see how Georgie and Mandy's first marriage reintroduces characters from Young Sheldon while bringing some new faces with us.

“(The creative team took) ownership of the production feel and design Young Sheldon and they brought it into this multi-camera world that is usually a bright and brash comedy. So they brought all their heart and soul to this format,” she continued. “You are entering new territory. It reminds me a lot of the old sitcoms from the '70s and '80s that were about real problems and had real things to say, but made you laugh while feeling all the emotions.”

Young Sheldon revealed that Mandy had become estranged from her parents before Georgie contacted them. Mandy has taken great steps to resolve her issues with her family Georgie and Mandy's first marriage shows the couple who live with them and the obstacles that arise as a result.

“Audrey cares. She wants nothing more than the best for her family. She just really believes that she knows what's better than everyone else. “So she’s really trying to push her own agenda here,” Jones suggested. “Of course that leads to a lot of conflict. But I think what’s really exciting to me is that we’re already starting to see different sides.”

Georgie and Mandy's first marriage shows more of Audrey as the season progresses, and Jones adds, “I have no doubt that these writers will continue to deepen her already complex character. I'm just excited to be surprised by all of this. I don’t have an agenda, but as long as they continue to allow us to see more sides of this person, it will be very exciting for me as an actor.”

The only idea Jones has for the show is a musical crossover. (Jones has a Broadway background and won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.)

“We are committed to it. (creator) Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro And Steve Holland are all musicians. So there are a lot of musicians here. And Emily Osment is a pop singer,” she noted. “We all sing, we all dance and we all do all these things. So if you could let the world know that we really need a musical episode, I would really appreciate it.”

Georgie and Mandy's first marriage airs Thursdays, October 17th at 8pm ET on CBS, with new episodes released each week.
