The Mets and Dodgers meet in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Thursday night, with Los Angeles holding a 2-1 lead in the series after a commanding win last night in New York.

Shohei Ohtani rebounded with a three-run home run in the Dodgers' 8-0 win at Citi Field, the team's fourth shutout in five games – and second in the first three games of the NLCS against the Mets.

Jose Quintana will take the starting spot for the Mets, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto will take the mound for the Dodgers. The left-handed Quintana has thrown 11 scoreless innings in two starts this postseason, striking out 11 with three walks. Yamamoto, who signed for $325 million last winter, earned the win by throwing five shutout innings in the Dodgers' decisive NLDS Game 5 against the Padres.

Early in the fourth, Jose Butto replaced starter Jose Quintana with runners on first and second and one out – and was promptly greeted by Mookie Betts' two-run double into the left corner.

With the bases loaded and one base out, Brandon Nimmo hit what looked like a double-play ball to second base, but the Mets' handicapped outfielder beat the throw to first base (after checking) and gave it a run The team won the second run against Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

With the decisive run on third, Yamamoto got Starling Marte to hit a sharp, short-range ground ball into the hole that was picked well by Tommy Edman, who threw it to second to end the frame with violence.

With two outs and runners on first and second, Dodgers shortstop Tommy Edman delivered an RBI double against Jose Quintana, giving the Dodgers a 2-1 lead early in the third inning. Enrique Hernandez followed with an RBI single to extend LA's lead to 3-1.

The Dodgers offered the bases a chance to break up the game, but Quintana got Will Smith to come out and end the inning.

After Shohei Ohtani led Game 4 with a home run, Mets third baseman Mark Vientos responded with a solo home run of his own in the bottom of Game 1.

It was the rookie's fourth home run of the 2024 playoffs and his 12 RBI tied the franchise record for most home runs in a single postseason.

After breaking out of a slump with a home run in Game 3, Shohei Ohtani led off Game 4 with a solo home run off Mets starter Jose Quintana.

Quintana entered Thursday's game having pitched 11 scoreless innings so far this postseason.

“He's obviously banged up and doing everything he can to stay on the field,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said before Game 4. “With the back-to-back games and a game tomorrow, I'm just trying to feel like one “To make a decision about what’s coming.” puts him in the best position for the upcoming games.

“And just tonight it seemed easy. Obviously he wants to be there. But him not being in the starting lineup, not running on and off the field, and being primed for a big spot tonight made a lot of sense.”

NEW YORK — Hey, shouldn't the Los Angeles Dodgers' pitching staff be a complete mess in the postseason?

Were the Dodgers not on their way to another playoff exit because they only had three healthy starters? They had better pitchers on their injured list than on the active roster, right?

Well, who's laughing now?

The Dodgers posted their fourth shutout in their last five postseason games with an 8-0 victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field on Wednesday night to take a 2-1 lead in this National League Championship Series.

“I don’t think we took it personally,” said Dodgers reliever Michael Kopech, the winning pitcher, “but you know, we kind of did.”

“Pretty cool to see what we do.”

Also historical.

The Dodgers became the eighth team in postseason history to post four shutouts, just one fewer than Cleveland's five shutouts in 2016.

“It's really satisfying,” Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen said, “but it's not a crazy formula.” Our defense behind us played great. The offense makes it much easier for us because they take the lead early.

“Really, we just don’t let it get bigger than it is. We’re not afraid to make big pitches in big spots.”
