The delusional Jets superfan believes the team is “phasing out” the chant

“JETS, JETS! Jets! Jets!”

Ed Anzalone, commonly known as “Fireman Ed,” has led this chant at MetLife Stadium for nearly two decades. And for some reason he thinks he's now out of the matchday tradition.

“I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but they’re letting us phase out,” Anzalone said in a video posted to his Instagram on Tuesday. “I would like to know if anyone knows anything. Please let me know because it’s obvious it’s happening and it needs to stop because we need the home advantage.”

The Jets undoubtedly need some juice at home games. But is that really the only thing that makes it happen?

Anzalone typically creates noise whenever New York enters the field before getting on defense, and the team in the stadium usually shows him and a group of fans on the video board how they can help him. However, the Jets seemingly stopped helping in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos, and that trend has continued as of late.

“Last night in particular – although also in the Denver game – we scored a touchdown in particular last night and normally we're traditionally always on the screen,” Anzalone said. “(We) sing the Jet chant to get the crowd going, which is a staple at JetLife Stadium.”

Anzalone famously resigned from the team in 2012, leaving the butt-fumble game – a New England Patriots loss on Thanksgiving – before halftime and declaring that he would no longer lead cheers at games before returning in 2015. The Jets might just return the favor.
