India vs New Zealand Live: Day 3, Session 1 coming soon

Overnight batsman Rachin Ravindra scored a brilliant century to extend New Zealand's lead to a commanding 299 on the third day of the rain-hit first Test against India on Friday.

New Zealand reached 345 for 7 at lunch with left-hander Ravindra standing firm on 104 and leading the attack against their opponents in Bengaluru.

Ravindra, a batting all-rounder whose parents hail from the city, added to his second century after 10 Test appearances with a boundary off Ravichandran Ashwin.

The tourists continued on 180-3 but conceded four wickets for 53 runs in the morning, with Ravindra Jadeja striking twice in two overs.

His New Zealand namesake then scored an unbeaten 112 with Tim Southee, who had a strike rate of 49 with three fours and three sixes.

India's quicks bowled well in the morning with Mohammed Siraj taking the wicket of Daryl Mitchell, caught at gully for 18.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Blundell was the next to depart, while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah caught him at second slip for five.

Jadeja led the spin attack, sending back Glenn Phillips for 14 and Matt Henry for eight with balls that slipped off the pitch and shook the stumps.

India said they would keep Rishabh Pant off the field for a day after the wicketkeeper injured his knee on Thursday, and Dhruv Jurel was substituted on Thursday.

It was the same knee that Pant injured in a serious car accident in December 2022, which forced him out of action for more than a year.

New Zealand fast bowlers Henry and William O'Rourke shared nine wickets between them and beat India for 46 on the second day, their third-lowest Test score and lowest ever on home turf.
