Weather in New York: A coastal flood warning is issued for New York City through Friday morning

At 1:02 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service issued a coastal flood warning effective for Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens, and Nassau County between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday.

“Flooding of approximately one foot above ground level is expected in vulnerable areas near shore and shoreline,” the weather service said. “With Saturday’s high tide, further minor coastal flooding is possible.”

“Minor flooding in the more vulnerable locations near the water and the coast. Minor flooding will occur on some streets and low-lying properties, including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the water,” the weather service comments. “If travel is necessary, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary measures to protect flood-prone property.”
