Sources say Pitt is looking to sign Tennessee's Allen Greene as its AD

Pittsburgh is expected to hire veteran athletic director Allen Greene as the school's next AD, sources told ESPN on Friday.

Greene is senior assistant athletic director and chief operating officer at Tennessee and has served as athletic director at Buffalo and Auburn. He worked at Ole Miss twice and worked at Notre Dame for seven years.

He would replace Heather Lyke, who was fired last month.

Greene brings a strong background in football, finance, NIL and fundraising. Increasing revenue was one of the biggest goals of Pitt's search for a new athletic director.

Greene also brings relative experience, having spent eight years as an athletic director: five at Auburn and three at Buffalo. Greene “retired” from Auburn in August 2022 as part of a negotiated departure.

Since then, he has worked at Ole Miss and Tennessee, where he was at the forefront of two schools that led the way in professionalizing college athletics. Ole Miss benefited significantly from the NIL rules and built a strong roster, while Tennessee athletic director Danny White was innovative in revenue generation.

Pitt Chancellor Joan Gabel pointed to “a new era in college athletics” when she relieved Lyke of her duties and called for a “new vision.”

Jennifer Tuscano has served as interim athletic director since Lyke's departure.

Greene is a former baseball player at Notre Dame who played professionally after being drafted into the New York Yankees organization.
