Baker Mayfield jokes about not speaking to Mark Andrews during the season

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield had some fun at the expense of Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews on Thursday, saying his former Oklahoma Sooners teammate will be there despite their two teams' matchup on “Monday night.” “Don't talk to him about football.”

“Even though Mark and I are best friends, he and I don’t talk during the season,” Mayfield said jokingly. “He's a weirdo. He can't quite separate friendship and football, so he struggles with it from year to year. So there are a few months where we are friends again. But at the moment no.”

“It hurts. It hurts my feelings,” Mayfield said as a room full of reporters laughed. “…This guy was at my wedding and doesn't want to talk to me. This hurts my feelings.”

Mayfield, who went Sasquatch hunting with his bachelor party before marrying his wife Emily in 2019, said Andrews was more than willing to participate in the search for Bigfoot.

“He would be the bait,” Mayfield said.

But he said his pal had changed because of what Mayfield described as a “very serious girlfriend” in social media ambassador Elena Yates. The couple has been together since summer 2023.

“Some people think he’s gone soft,” Mayfield said with a serious face. “I'm not one of those people, but people grumble. There are whispers out there.”

When asked if that included watching the movie “The Notebook,” Mayfield replied, “He's been watching it over and over again for the last six months. I love you, Mark.”
