That's why some Americans receiving Social Security will get an extra check next month

Some Social Security recipients will receive an additional check next month based on which day the start of the month falls in the coming months.

Beneficiaries who are eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) receive payments based on the day of the month on which they have their birthday and the day of the week on which their payments typically occur.

In November, the first of the month falls on a Friday and on that day recipients receive their first payment.

However, in December the first of the month falls on a Sunday. That means the payment will be made earlier in December and will arrive on Friday, November 29th – meaning two checks will arrive in one month.

After that, the next SSI payment will not arrive until Tuesday, December 31st. This will cover the January 2025 SSI payment.

Payment is due in December as New Year is a public holiday.

These benefits are paid to people aged 65 and over with little or no income, as well as to younger people with a physical or mental disability.

Approximately 7.5 million Americans receive monthly SSI benefits.

The maximum monthly payment for SSI benefits is $943 for an individual or $1,450 for an eligible couple.
