Tabitha Senior Living hosts Oktoberfest

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – Tabitha Senior Living Community celebrated Oktoberfest with music, brats and beer on Friday.

“Senior life is so much fun and so much more than people think,” said Tonya Van Pelt, campus administrator. “It’s so important for our minds and our bodies to stay active, have fun and just live with purpose and stay active.”

Artist Rascal Martinez kicked off the afternoon event with an hour-long performance, and residents enjoyed pretzels and brats as well as a variety of beers, some of which fit the Oktoberfest theme.

“I love music and he’s pretty good,” said Kathleen, a Tabitha resident. “It’s just nice to be around happy people.”

Van Pelt said hosting such events is important for engaging residents.

“It helps prevent memory loss and Alzheimer's, it helps with a number of things to keep our bodies healthy,” Van Pelt said.

The Tabitha location has been open for almost two years and Van Pelt said the building gives them the opportunity to offer fun events.

“This facility is so beautiful and we are so honored to be part of this community,” Van Pelt said. “It’s just a wonderful environment and a place that we can offer our seniors.”

This isn't the only event bringing the community together in Tabitha. They recently placed second in the float competition at the Harvest of Harmony parade.

“It was really fun to work together as a community on a project and then see the results,” Van Pelt said. “Your smile is worth everything, that’s why we do what we do, right? It’s just about serving our seniors who paved the way for us, and I think it holds a special place in our hearts.”
