Most of the regular players will next be seen in action for the Miami Heat on October 23rd against the Orlando Magic.

The Miami Heat, who have played four preseason games so far, will conclude their preseason on Friday with an away game against the Memphis Grizzlies. However, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, eight Heat players – including seven regular rotation players and one rotation player still recovering from shoulder surgery (Josh Richardson) – will not make the trip with the team to Memphis.

Those unable to make the trip include:

  • Richardson
  • Bam Adebayo
  • Jimmy Butler
  • Alec Burkes
  • Tyler Herro
  • Kevin Love
  • Terry Rozier
  • Duncan Robinson

So we see more representatives of the “Summer League squad” as well as more players on the ball from Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Haywood Highsmith and Thomas Bryant. In total, the Heat will have 12 active players for the game – assuming no other players are ruled out by then – including three Exhibit 10 players (Isaiah Stevens, Zyon Pullin, Warren Washington) competing for two-way spots .

Miami went 3-1 in the preseason, although wins and losses don't matter. More importantly, we've seen a shift in the team's offensive philosophy with the team's shooting diet, firing more than 46 percent of its attempts from deep and 48 percent from behind the arc, eliminating mid-range shots.

It has also led to more deflections in the halfcourt again after ranking 20th in deflections per 36 and 12th in live-ball turnovers per 100 last year. This has resulted in a higher pace and frequency of transitions and enables better utilization of capital.

The Heat haven't necessarily been efficient in the halfcourt — especially from 3-point range — but I wouldn't worry about a four-game preseason sample if Herro, Robinson, Jovic or Rozier didn't shoot well from distance . Over time, this percentage should return positively to the mean.
