Boston College will honor the Gaudreau brothers and Tony Voce during the season

Boston College will honor former hockey players Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau and Tony Voce this season with uniform badges, a sign on the boards in front of the team bench and other honors.

All three died this summer: The Gaudreau brothers were hit by a car while cycling in New Jersey the day before their sister's wedding. Voce, a member of the 2001 Eagles national team, died suddenly at age 43; No cause of death was announced.

The school said there will be a moment of silence and a video tribute before Friday's home game against American International College. The Eagles will wear a patch with “TV,” “JG” and “MG,” and the initials will also be featured on plaques at the Conte Forum.

During warmups before Hockey East's opening game against Maine on Nov. 8, all members of the BC team will wear the jerseys of Voce or one of the Gaudreaus. The school's trophy case was also redesigned in honor of the players.

Winner of the 2014 Hobey Baker Award as the best collegiate hockey player, “Johnny Hockey” was a member of BC’s 2012 NCAA team and played 11 years in the NHL for Calgary and Columbus. His younger brother Matthew was a two-time Beanpot champion and led the Eagles in points as a senior.

Voce was a 2004 First Team All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist.

The BC honors are the latest expression of grief from the hockey community.
