Here's what happened in our simulation:

First quarter

JuJu Smith-Schuster's early injury disrupted the rhythm of the Kansas City Chiefs offense. The team's first drive ended in a punt, and the second drive had similar difficulties. After a big play against Justin Watson, Patrick Mahomes showed off his athleticism with a 24-yard run that brought the Chiefs to the edge of the end zone.

On third-and-goal, however, Fred Warner made a crucial interception in the end zone that forced a turnover.

End of the first quarter: Chiefs 0, 49ers 0

Second quarter

The 49ers eventually recorded their first first down of the game as their offense struggled to find a rhythm in the first quarter. Brock Purdy connected with George Kittle on a crucial third-and-long play, setting the stage for Purdy to find Deebo Samuel for the first score of the game.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes was forced to rely on his legs while his receivers struggled to create separation. However, Skyy Moore, coming back from Smith-Schuster's injury, made a crucial catch that brought the Chiefs to the 49ers' 18-yard line.

Just two plays later, running back Kareem Hunt slid untouched into the end zone and tied the game.

It didn't take long for the 49ers to respond; Samuel caught his second touchdown pass of the game on a stunning 76-yard play.

With 90 seconds left in the half, the Chiefs quickly moved the ball downfield. Xavier Worthy then caught a game-winning touchdown before halftime.

End of second quarter: Chiefs 14, 49ers 14

Third quarter

It was the Kittle show for the 49ers right after halftime, as he caught four passes on their first drive, culminating in a two-yard touchdown.

In response, Mahomes targeted Justin Watson frequently on the Chiefs' next drive, scoring five times for 68 yards. The drive ended with a Travis Kelce touchdown that tied the game.

End of third quarter: Chiefs 21, 49ers 21

Fourth quarter

A massive sack by George Karlaftis forced the 49ers to punt and gave the Chiefs another opportunity to take the lead.

As the Chiefs moved downfield, their drive stalled near the 49ers' 35-yard line. Harrison Butker stepped up and scored a field goal, giving the Chiefs a three-point lead.

With just 30 seconds left, the 49ers responded with a Jake Moody field goal to tie the game again.

End of fourth quarter: Chiefs 24, 49ers 21

Over time

The 49ers received the ball, began overtime and methodically advanced downfield. Running back Jordan Mason was instrumental in this – both in rushing the ball and making important catches during the drive.

At one point, the Niners faced a first-and-goal after Mason's 2-yard run. However, Karlaftis sacked Purdy on the second pass. With the pressure mounting, Purdy was forced to throw the ball out of the back of the end zone on third-and-goal, and the Niners settled for a field goal.

The Chiefs wasted no time in responding. As they reached midfield, Mahomes darted into the end zone and connected with Xavier Worthy for the game-winning touchdown.

Final score: Chiefs 30, 49ers 27
