Meryl Streep and Martin Short are all smiles for a cozy dinner in Santa Monica after sparking romance rumors

The romance rumors between Meryl Streep and Martin Short are increasing.

The Only Murders in the Building co-stars were all smiles as they arrived at the popular Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California on Wednesday.

Streep, 75, walked just ahead of Short, 74, wearing a blue and white blouse paired with navy pants and cream ballet flats.

The actor wore a gray suit, white button-up shirt and black sneakers.

They drove off together in the Little Women star's white sedan, with her driving and Short riding shotgun.

Rumors that the duo, who play on-screen lovers, were dating began when they were photographed sitting comfortably together at the 2024 Golden Globes.

Despite the speculation, a representative for Short insisted that they were “nothing more” than friends, according to People.

Later that month, the “Saturday Night Live” alum amplified the rumors, telling Bill Maher on his “Club Random” podcast that they were “very close friends.”

However, Short and Streep have continued to fuel speculation by often going out to dinner together and attending Broadway shows together.

The actress and the “Santa Clause 3” star were last seen holding hands at the fourth season premiere of their Hulu show, which also starred Selena Gomez and Steve Martin.

Insiders told Page Six that Streep and Short remained close in the theater and their “close friendship” was widely felt as they stayed by each other's sides throughout the night.

“They came in holding hands, in high spirits and laughing. “It was very sweet and sweet,” we are told. “It has to be more than a ‘showmance.’ There’s definitely something there.”

Short and The Devil Wears Prada star's alleged affair comes after Page Six revealed in October 2023 that the latter had secretly split from her husband Don Gummer six years ago.

The ex-partners were married for 40 years.

The Tony Award winner, meanwhile, was married to her wife Nancy Dolman for three decades until her death in 2010.
