Could the Boston Red Sox steal a superstar from their biggest rival?

The 2024 Major League Baseball postseason is in full swing and the New York Yankees have a good chance of making it to the World Series. New York won just 82 games in 2023 and signed Juan Soto in the offseason, and now things have completely turned around.

Soto will be a free agent this winter and Boston should see if he follows the same plan. The Red Sox won 81 games in 2024 and signing Soto would clearly take the club to a new level. A move shouldn't be considered likely, but he will be a free agent so they could at least make contact with him.

There has been speculation about how much Soto might get as a free agent. He will be getting a historic deal and Jon Heyman of the New York Post even stated that he expects the deal to cost at least $600 million. Heyman also didn't rule out signing the Red Sox.

“The Yankees are number one,” Heyman said. “I have the Mets (at No. 2), and in that big basket there has to be (the Toronto Blue Jays), (Los Angeles Dodgers) and (San Francisco Giants). Toronto and San Francisco are struggling.” It might be difficult for them to attract big stars. I certainly won't rule out the Red Sox.

A change is unlikely, but it would be fantastic. Boston's signing of Soto would give the club a young superstar to join its already solid core for the foreseeable future. It would also hurt its biggest rival in the division and make things easier in the competition. Keep an eye on Boston this winter.
