Young talent makes it into the top 10?

Young talent makes it into the top 10?

College football is unpredictable and constantly changing. Because the Top 25 is an ever-changing puzzle, deciding which teams deserve awards and praise and which teams deserve to be shot into the sun is never a perfect science.

As the Week 8 results were finalized at the end of Saturday, several top 10 teams fell victim to the angry monster, namely number one Texas and number seven Alabama. Each of these defeats carries a different weight and challenges the idea of a “loss of quality”. Each of these teams will certainly slide in the rankings, but the Tide's second loss could lead to a free fall for Alabama, as has happened to other SEC teams this season.

The Big 12's top two teams – BYU and Iowa State – each escaped an upset on their home fields. The chaotic Big 12 only has two undefeated teams in Iowa State and BYU, who may slip into the top 10 after their win miraculous victory over Oklahoma State.

But as the SEC cannibalizes its golden programs in the first few weeks of conference play, I can't help but wonder what this will mean for the SEC implicit bias that the conference shares with the Big 10 when it comes to national polls. These two conferences look deadly, and parity has reached such a high level in this sport that even the top schools in the polls are drowning in a raging storm of question marks.

It's never an exact science to boldly say which teams deserve a prestigious position and which teams are hollow to the core, but this season isn't making it easy for anyone.
