Florida woman and 10-year-old boy killed, three injured in wrong-way crash in Millard County

COVE FORT, Millard County – A North Miami, Florida, woman was killed along with a 10-year-old boy in a wrong-way crash Thursday on I-15 near the I-70 interchange in Millard County, according to reports the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Police identified the woman as Melissa MacDonald, 55, but did not release any information about the boy.

A preliminary investigation revealed that around 5:15 a.m., a Toyota Corolla was traveling south in the northbound lane and a Dodge pickup was traveling north in the left lane, according to UHP. The vehicles collided head-on.

MacDonald was driving the Corolla at the time of the accident, UHP said, and the boy who died was a passenger in the truck. The driver and two other minor passengers in the pickup were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.

According to investigators, everyone involved in the accident appeared to be wearing seatbelts.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the crash temporarily closed all northbound lanes on I-15 near the interchange before reopening just after 11 a.m. Thursday.
