Derek Jeter leaves MLB on the Fox set after Mr. and Mrs. Met arrive

Derek Jeter signed with Fox Sports as an MLB analyst. And there's certainly not a line in his contract that says, “Must interact with lovable mascots of bitter cross-town rivals.”

But Jeter found himself in that predicament Friday night after the New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-6 in Game 5 of the NLCS at Citi Field.

During the postgame show, Mr. and Mrs. Met went to the set of MLB on Fox.

“My girl is here. “Come here, darling,” David Ortiz said to Mrs. Met. She went over and hugged Ortiz tightly and he returned the kiss. Mr. Met began gesturing at Ortiz in mock outrage. Things quickly became unpleasant.

“Is this a love triangle? “What’s going on here?” Alex Rodriguez joked.

“I think this is a show for another network,” said host Kevin Burkhardt wryly.

As the two mascots danced around on set, Mr. Met grabbed Ortiz's microphone.

“We skipped over here,” Burkhardt stated.

Jeter had been playing along with the hijinks up to that point, but having the two Mets mascots swarming him was too much for the New York Yankees legend. And when Mr. Met sat down next to him, Jeter got up and walked away. And went on.

The Mets mascots were understandably in good spirits following the team's victory after suffering a huge loss the night before. It's also hard to blame Jeter for his departure; Hanging around the Mets characters would be a bad look for a former Yankee.

Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay, who recently ranted at length about Yankees fans cheering for the Mets this postseason, would have been proud of Jeter.
