South Dakota Football trailed Youngstown State 14-0 early, but scored 27 points in the final three quarters to earn its first road win over the Penguins in program history, 27-17.

Youngstown State got on the field on its first drive of the game, which covered 11 plays for 82 yards and ended with a 15-yard pass from Penguins quarterback Beau Brungard to Brandan Serrano. Youngstown State once again put together a strong performance, spanning from the 5:50 mark of the first quarter to the 12:23 mark of the second quarter. This drive took 13 plays for 81 yards, but Brungard capped this drive himself with an 11-yard rushing touchdown.

Brungard completed 22 of his 31 passes for 208 yards and also had 89 rushing yards on 16 carries and two total touchdowns.

After this touchdown, both USD's offense and defense went up a level. It only took three minutes and a 48-yard touchdown pass for the Coyotes to get on the scoreboard themselves. Five minutes later, they scored again on a 21-yard rush by Charles Pierre Jr. to tie the score.

Youngstown State scored a field goal before the end of the half, but the momentum was clearly on South Dakota's side.

The USD defense held the Penguins scoreless the rest of the game while the offense scored 13 more points. Bouman had another strong game, completing 12 of his 18 passes for 233 yards and having a touchdown pass. JJ Galbreath was the Coyotes' leading receiver with 79 yards on just three receptions. Charles Pierre Jr. had the majority of the ball in the running back room and had a fantastic performance, rushing for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.
