2024 Rock Hall Inductions: “Prince of Darkness” Ozzy Osbourne sits on the heavy metal throne for induction, all-star jam

After all, both are synonymous with the hard rock and heavy metal community.

Black read the highlights and said, “That's too much success for a lifetime.” He mentioned Black Sabbath, Randy Rhodes, the solo career, Ozzfest, The Osbournes and everything in between.

Black also poked fun at the supposed “devil worship” that eventually fueled the Parents Music Resource Center in the '80s. The pioneering figure of hard rock and heavy metal was described by his colleagues as “outrageous”, “completely crazy”, “dangerous” and “loose cannon”.

Fans know that Osbourne has been “running the rubber off his tires” throughout his career, which may have explained him sitting on a dark throne on stage…he's been pretty frail lately.

“I can't believe I'm here myself,” Osbourne said, thanking his fans.

“So I’m not going to bore you with a long, drawn-out (expletive) monologue.”

He thanked Rhodes, his wife Sharon and all the musicians he's had the privilege of playing with over the years. Those he influenced got the chance to celebrate Osbourne with an all-star jam.

Ravenna's own Maynard James Keenan (Tool/A Perfect Circle) teaming up with Wolfgang Van Halen for “Crazy Train” while Robert Trujillo (Metallica) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) held down the back end was a shredder's delight . Wolf is a chip off the old Eddie Van Halen block.

Jelly Roll and Zakk Wylde's collaboration was fascinating. The acoustic-to-underneath vibrato on “Mama, I'm Coming Home” was a monumental nod, even if Roll's vocals got a little hoarse at the end. Trujillo, a member of Osbourne's band from 1996 to 2003, seemed to relish the opportunity to shake it up.

Wylde delivered his massive solo lead-in to Billy Idol and his longtime guitar compatriot Steve Stevens on “No More Tears.” Idol's singing wasn't well received, but it was widely applauded.
