Oregon is No. 1, Texas is slipping in the college football rankings

As might be expected given the weekend's results in college football, there is a new No. 1 team at the top of the USA LBM Coaches Poll. As you might expect, this team was ranked No. 2 last week.

Oregon moves up to first place for the first time since November 11, 2012. The Ducks were voted first on 51 of 53 coaching votes submitted this week following their whitewash against Purdue on Friday night. It wasn't unanimous, however, as Georgia took the remaining top spots and moved back up to No. 2 after defeating previous No. 1 Texas on the road. The loss caused the Longhorns to fall five spots to No. 6.

Penn State, still undefeated but having the week off, remains at No. 3. No. 4 Ohio State, which was also in an open date, remains at No. 4. There was a little more drama at No. 5, where Miami beat Texas by five poll points exceeds. LSU climbs one notch to No. 7, followed by Tennessee, Clemson and Iowa State. The Volunteers moved up two spots after their win over Alabama.

Notre Dame remains at No. 11 and Brigham Young moves up to No. 12. Indiana makes the big move of the week, moving up five spots to No. 13 after a decisive win against then-No. 25 Nebraska. Texas A&M is No. 14, followed by Alabama.

Navy enters the poll at No. 24, its first appearance since the final poll of the 2019 season. It's also the first time the Midshipmen and academy rival Army, which checks in at No. 23, are in the top 25 in the same week , since USA TODAY began conducting the coaches survey.

Also new to the rankings this week is No. 25 Vanderbilt, its first appearance since the final poll of the 2013 season. Nebraska is eliminated along with Michigan.
