The Packers' new kicker, Brandon McManus, scores the game-winning field goal to beat the Texans

Brandon McManus' first game in the NFL gave the Green Bay Packers the chance to score a game-winning field goal from 45 yards out against the Houston Texans.

The veteran placekicker cashed in after the ball was snapped, and his handle was perfect as the Packers escaped 24-22 in a thrilling game against the AFC South leaders.

Jordan Love and the Packers' offense knew they had enough time after the Texans kicked their own field goal on the previous drive to take a one-point lead. He found Dontayvion Wicks for a 13-yard gain, and then Romeo Doubs caught a pass for 12 yards to bring Green Bay to the Houston 37-yard line.

Doubs had another small lead over McManus, securing the victory at his new home, Lambeau Field.

TEXANS' STEFON DIGGS HOLD BACK FROM NUMEROUS PACKERS DURING PRE-GAME WARM-UP

There was a lot of back-and-forth in this battle of the NFL's heavyweights, which began with the Packers finding the end zone first after Love fired a 14-yard pass to tight end Tucker Kraft in the end zone to reach 7th place -3.

But the Packers gave the momentum back to the Texans when Corey Ballentine deflected a punt that Houston recovered at the Green Bay 11-yard line. Two plays later, Joe Mixon scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns as the Texans regained the lead.

Each team knew how to respond, and Love did so with a beautiful, deep ball to Wicks from 30 yards for a touchdown.

Mixon scored the second touchdown later in the first half, giving the Texans a 19-14 halftime lead, but that wouldn't last long after the start of the second half.

After forcing a three-and-out, the Packers gained 71 yards in nine plays and Josh Jacobs made personal history by finally scoring his first touchdown. He hadn't done that at all with the Las Vegas Raiders in his last five seasons in the NFL. But from eight meters away he finally managed to put his team in the lead again.

It became a punt fest after Jacobs' score, but CJ Stroud fired in a 6:27-minute shot in the fourth quarter before a Ka'imi Fairbairn field goal made it 22-21. But in the end the watch wasn't enough.

Looking at the box score, Love was 24 of 33 for 220 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Doubs was his top target with eight catches for 94 yards, while Jacobs managed 76 yards on just 12 carries for Green Bay.
