With bizarre and profane rhetoric, Trump proves Harris is right

Ahead of Donald Trump's campaign rally Saturday night in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, one of his senior advisers signaled to reporters that this event would be a little different than most. In particular, Jason Miller let reporters know that the former president would listen to the Republican's “final message” again as Election Day approaches.

Miller even went so far as to tell the media that Trump's comments were “important.”

In some ways, the words proved prophetic, but probably not in the way the GOP candidate's campaign had in mind. NBC News reported:

Trump spent 12 minutes at the start of his roughly 90-minute speech telling stories about (Arnold) Palmer, the late professional golfer for whom the airport was named. At one point he suggested that Palmer had unusually large genitals. “He was strong and tough, and I refuse to say it, but when he was showering with the other pros, they came out and said, 'Oh my God.' “That’s unbelievable,” Trump said.

The former president spent months telling almost daily anyone who would listen that it was him not “weird” at all. But when candidates for the highest office in the land spend 12 minutes talking about a deceased golfer, culminating in comments about his genitals, I think to reasonable observers it's incredibly strange.

At the same event, Trump also said, “We can't stand you,” referring to Vice President Kamala Harris. “You're a damn vice president.”

A Harris campaign spokesman asked shortly afterward whether anyone had done a “health check” on Trump, and given the circumstances, that was more than just a pointed answer.

In fact, the Democratic candidate also said on Saturday about her Republican rival: “He's becoming more and more unstable and unhinged.” The American people see it, are witnessing it in real time. The American people deserve better than someone who appears unstable.”

And those were hours before Trump spoke publicly about the private parts of a deceased golfer.

As the election finish line draws ever closer, Democrats are increasingly sold on the idea that Trump is not only a reactionary criminal with an authoritarian agenda, but also a mentally unstable Criminals with an authoritarian agenda.

For example, the day before Trump's event in Latrobe, Barack Obama led a rally in Arizona where he told locals, “I have to point out that in addition to his intentions, there is also a question of his competence.” Have you seen him lately? I mean, he's out there giving two, two and a half hour speeches. Just word salads.”

“Let me explain, because I have attended many town hall meetings,” Obama added. “A town hall meeting is about answering questions. He just decided I wasn't going to answer any more questions, and then he swayed to “Ave Maria” and “YMCA” for about half an hour. People stand there and don't know what's happening. Can you imagine if I had done that?”

The former Democratic president concluded: “You would be worried if your grandpa started acting like that. … The point is, we don’t need to see what an older, crazier Donald Trump looks like without guardrails.”

It probably doesn't make sense to cite every example of the former president's recent meltdowns – there are simply too many to list in a single blog post – but for those concerned about the mental performance and cognitive fitness of the Republicans, Trump is adding new fuel to the fire with his concern.

And considering he's been hiding his medical records for reasons that remain unclear, it's hard to blame Harris and her allies for issuing these warnings to the public.

The day after his event in Latrobe, Trump took part in a question-and-answer session in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he attempted to address the matter. “I have no cognitive ability,” the Republican boasted.

How calming.
