Report: Deshaun Watson is considering two options to repair his torn Achilles tendon

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson's season appears to be over, but how long his recovery will take from Sunday's Achilles tendon injury remains to be seen.

Watson has a torn Achilles tendon will have surgery soonsaid Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

What is unclear is the type of surgery, as Watson is considering both conventional surgery and a newer “speed bridge” procedure that may result in a quicker return to action. That's the surgery Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers underwent last season, and he was able to return to practice quicker than most players with torn Achilles tendons.

Of course, Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in the first week and still wasn't able to return until the end of the season. Watson tore his Achilles tendon in week seven, so he would not play this season despite the quicker recovery.

A quicker recovery could give Watson a start in the offseason, but does it even matter at this point? Trading for Watson was an unmitigated disaster for the Browns that they would love to part ways with him, but the huge guaranteed salary he has for the 2025 and 2026 seasons means he will put a big dent in their salary cap if he does does whether he is on the team or not and whether he is healthy enough to play or not.
