John Mayer shared a beautiful, detailed tribute to Francisco Lindor and the Mets on his Instagram

Legendary musician John Mayer revealed that one of his biggest inspirations was New York Mets superstar Francisco Lindor.

Mayer, who has won seven Grammy Awards throughout his music career and is also the frontman of Dead & Company, gave a touching tribute to the New York shortstop for his efforts during the MLB playoffs.

According to Mayer, the way Lindor played in the postseason was a big reason he continues to play at such a high level. He was able to compare New York's grueling playoff run to his own struggles at The Sphere in Las Vegas and gain insight into recovering from his own injury.

“If I want to share one secret of success with you, it is to choose someone in life that you admire and stand by their side. You don't have to know him to decide that if he can move on, you can move on. And the Mets continued.

I hope that in the next few days, after the disappointment, Francisco and the entire team will realize that what they have achieved was enough. Their monumental run was enough to unite a city, bring families and friends together, and remind us all that, above all, nothing is a stronger force for success than effort. A boring word: “effort.” But it is the only chance for good to become great, and for that greatness to prevail in the long run.

Mayer is originally from Connecticut, but his family's roots are in New York.
