Andrew Babalola first five-star award since Will Johnson

Andrew Babalola first five-star award since Will Johnson

Michigan Wolverines football turned heads Monday night when he landed the five-star offensive tackle from Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley Northwest Andrew Babalola. The 2025 recruit is the No. 11 overall prospect and the third-best offensive tackle in the country, according to On3.

Babalola is not just the crown jewel for Michigan's 2025 recruiting class — bringing up to 17 commitments as December's National Signing Day approaches — he is the Wolverines' first five-star commitment since cornerback Will Johnson back in 2022. Johnson, of course, is now a junior and one of the best overall players in America.

The 6-foot-2, 295-pound player is Michigan's first five-star head coach commitment Sherrone Moorewho took over the program at the end of January.

The Wolverines have only had six five-star prospects in nine seasons under head coach Jim Harbaugh (2015-23).

While he is ranked 11th overall in the 2025 class according to On3, he is ranked 19th according to On3 Industry Rankings. At No. 19, he is Michigan's highest-rated player since his tenure as a defensive back Daxton Hill in 2019 (No. 8).

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Babalola is the Maize and Blue's 14th five-star prospect since 2004. He is also the Wolverines' highest-ranked offensive lineman in the recruiting era. Of Michigan's 14 five-star players since 2004, Babalola is the only one at his position.

Michigan did not receive a single five-star pick in 2024 and 2023. Before getting Johnson, an in-state prospect, there were no five stars as Hill transferred to UM from Alabama on signing day and became a defensive tackle Christopher Hinton signed the program in 2019.

Both Hill and Hinton left Michigan early after their junior seasons in 2021 and helped lead the Wolverines to the national championship. Hill eventually became a first-round pick while Hinton was an undrafted free agent.

Michigan landed two five-star recruits in 2017, and did so with great success Donovan Peoples Jones and defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon. Neither lived up to the needs at Michigan, but Peoples-Jones was productive with 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns. Solomon, meanwhile, transferred to Tennessee after two seasons at UM.

In 2016, Michigan had a five-star defensive lineman Rashan Gary — the nation's top recruit according to the On3 industry rankings — makes his pledge on national signing day, an early recruiting victory for the then-head coach Jim Harbaugh in his first full recruiting class.

Former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke (2011-14) brought in a five-star player during his tenure, defensive back Jabrill Peppers, the No. 1 overall pick in 2014.

Here's a look at all of Michigan's five-star ratings since 2004, when On3 Industry Rankings data goes back to.
