After reports of “exhaustion,” Trump cancels another media appearance

If it seems like Donald Trump has been canceling a surprising number of events, interviews, and appearances lately, it's not your imagination. In fact, as Politico reported, the list is getting longer.

Donald Trump was scheduled to appear in a virtual town hall with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) at 2 p.m. today – but that was canceled with organizers citing “changes in Trump's schedule.” … The Make America Healthy Again town hall, which organizers planned to livestream on X, was intended to highlight Kennedy's health care agenda and his contributions to the Trump campaign. (The former independent candidate dropped his bid in August and endorsed Trump.)

To be fair, it would be an exaggeration to suggest that the former Republican president is somehow hiding. It's not him. The Republican candidate continues to make a variety of public appearances, mostly in places where he doesn't have to worry about controversial issues.

But he also made a surprising number of rejections:

  • Before his cancellation, Trump agreed to appear on CBS' “60 Minutes.”
  • He agreed to appear on CNBC before the cancellation.
  • He reportedly planned to do an interview with the NBC affiliate in Philadelphia before the cancellation.
  • He was reportedly in talks with The Shade Room for a sit-down interview for weeks before pulling out.
  • His campaign said he would debate Kamala Harris more than once, but he soon abandoned those plans as well.

It's also worth noting that Trump was scheduled to attend a National Rifle Association event in Georgia, but that was also canceled. The right-wing group explained that the change was the result of “changes in campaign planning.”

As for possible explanations for these many cancellations, Politico reported that Trump's team told a media outlet that the candidate's schedule was so busy that it was causing “exhaustion.”

Making matters worse, the 78-year-old Republican appeared to fall asleep more than once during some recent events.

This has not gone unnoticed by the competing campaign.

“Being president of the United States is probably one of the hardest jobs in the world,” Harris told reporters late last week after referencing the Politico report. “So we really have to ask ourselves, is he fit for the job if he's exhausted from campaigning?”

Presumably Trump could defend himself against such questions by releasing his medical records, but so far he has refused to do so for reasons he has not explained.
