“Knicks' Mikal Bridges reminds 76ers fans of Markelle Fultz shot saga”

The New York Knicks made some blockbuster moves this offseason. One of their acquisitions included a trade for a traded Philadelphia 76ers draft pick, Mikal Bridges.

When the Brooklyn Nets announced a rebuild, they were poised to part ways with Bridges in one of the NBA's most notable offseason deals. The acquisition looked like a home run for the Knicks considering they retained most of their top talent and added a former college teammate of Jalen Brunson.

While it's far too early to call a real winner in the deal, NBA fans on social media are shocked at the change Bridges has made since joining the Knicks. The career 38 percent three-way shooter looks like his form has changed. As a result, Bridges struggled in three games throughout the preseason and showed early problems in three games on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics.

76ers fans see Bridges' sudden shooting problems as a Markelle Fultz-like situation.

@JohnGonzalez: Kind of amazing that Bridges didn't end up on the Sixers island of misfit shots

@WVGauntlet: All I wanted in the offseason was for the Sixers to get Mikal Bridges. Seeing him shoot like Markelle Fultz, a thoracic outlet syndrome sufferer, makes me extremely glad they didn't do that

@mingramjr: Bridges look like Sixers Fultz

@xWltys: Thank God the sixes swapped bridges 😭

@skd215: I thought this Bridges jumper fiasco was just for the Sixers. I'm glad the Grim Reaper can multitask

@justind4885: Mikal Bridges' shot is so broken I'm surprised the NBA didn't force the Sixers to trade him.

Back in 2017, the Sixers selected Markelle Fultz from Washington with the No. 1 overall pick. At that time, Fultz had a 48 percent shooting percentage in 25 games as a freshman and hit 41 percent of his three-pointers. By the time he reached the NBA, his shot had changed, leading to one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the franchise.

Although Fultz's playing time in Philly was limited to just 33 games over two seasons, he never averaged over 30 percent in three games with the team. His career-high from beyond the arc is 31 percent. He achieved this in 2022-2023 with the Orlando Magic.

Bridges has translated his Nova days well into the NBA. He averaged 14 points in 474 games while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field over the course of his career.

Unfortunately for the Knicks, they see Bridges struggling early. During his first half as a Knick, Bridges missed all of his shots from the field.
