We're feeling bad after the T20 World Cup, but we need to rally against New Zealand: Amol Muzumdar

AHMEDABAD: Indian women's team head coach Amol Muzumdar urged the team to stand behind the women's “hurt”. Women's T20 World Cup and regroup for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting on Thursday.
New Zealand, which eventually secured the ICC showpiece win, had recently beaten India in the World Cup opener in the United Arab Emirates as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side failed to progress to the knockout stages.
“It would be an understatement to say we were disappointed with the World Cup as the team and players were doing poorly. But we need to collect ourselves and look at the positive things we have achieved in the last ten months as a team group,” Muzumdar told the media on the eve of the first day.

Muzumdar recalled the team's dominant run over South Africa in Bengaluru recently, winning the ODI series 3-0, and urged the team to focus on its strengths.
“We had won 3-0 against South Africa in Bangalore just a few months ago. So we're really looking forward to the series (against New Zealand). It’s an important series.”
“We are an impressive team and we want to focus on our strengths and work on the areas where we can improve. I am sure this will be a very competitive series,” he added.

India will be without the services of injured spinner Asha Sobhana and Richa Ghosh in this series, who is scheduled for her board exams.
However, Muzumdar said his team has enough depth.
“Some of these were forced changes. There won't be many changes over the course of the season because this team is very capable.
Massive challenge against India: Devine
New Zealand captain Sophie Devine said her team was ready to take on India in the ODI series, which she described as a “huge challenge”.
“It will always be a big challenge to play against India in these conditions. That's why we're very excited about this challenge. “Obviously we're building on the momentum that we took from the (T20) World Cup,” she said.
Devine also said the Kiwis want to pick up points and qualify for the Women's ODI World Cup, which takes place in India next year.
“Qualification points are still open, so our first priority is to qualify for next year’s World Cup. I think we’re in a really good position to get here and have some success.”
However, the 35-year-old all-rounder warned the Kiwis not to take India lightly after beating them in the recent World Cup.
“I know they will be disappointed after the last World Cup, but the fact is that India are incredibly strong at home. They have depth throughout their lineup with both bat and ball.”
“The way Harman leads them will be crucial. We have to find ways to prevent that and take wickets at regular intervals,” she noted.
