According to US officials, the operation is expected to be short-lived, lasting days rather than weeks.
Israel has informed the US that the invasion of southern Lebanon is aimed at removing Hezbollah forces from the border and attacking key military infrastructure. The offensive is expected to be limited in scope and time, officials said, perhaps lasting only a few days.
