Aidan Hutchinson of the Lions had to leave the field with an apparent serious leg injury

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Detroit Lions star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field early in the third quarter in a scary scene at AT&T Stadium on Sunday.

Hutchinson injured his left leg on a play in which he sacked Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Hutchinson's leg appeared to break above the ankle when it collided with teammate Alim McNeill's left leg as Hutchinson dragged Prescott down.

Hutchinson's leg was placed in an air cast as he was placed on the cart.

Members of the Lions and Cowboys quickly gathered around Hutchinson as team doctors rushed to his side. He finished the game with three tackles against Dallas, including the sack.

Hutchinson, the second pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, quickly exited with a lower leg injury.

According to ESPN Research, his 7.5 sacks this season are the most in five games by a Lions player since 1983 (William Gay). Entering Week 6, Hutchinson led the NFL in sacks, pressures and pass-rush win percentage, despite the Lions coming off their bye week.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
