Andy Dalton throws a brutal pick 6 just minutes into the Panthers' match against the Commanders

Andy Dalton was trying to gain the upper hand shortly into his match against the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon.

Instead, what should have been a simple throwaway player turned into a remarkable pick 6 for linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. and immediately put the Carolina Panthers in a hole at Northwest Stadium.

Dalton came under pressure on his first drive of the game Sunday and tried to simply throw the ball to running back Miles Sanders a few yards in front of him instead of taking a sack. However, the ball went behind Sanders' back directly to Fowler – who had a clear path to return it 67 yards for a touchdown.

Dalton will make his fifth start for the Panthers this season after replacing starter Bryce Young, who started his NFL career with a brutal 2-16 after a dominant run at Alabama. Although Dalton led the Panthers to an immediate win, they have lost three straight in Sunday's contest outside Washington, D.C., and hold just a 1-5 record.

In last week's 38-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Dalton went 26 of 38 for 221 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Dalton, who threw another interception later in the first quarter, has now thrown six interceptions in his last four starts.

This post will be updated with more information shortly.
