Atletico Madrid 1-3 Lille: Jonathan David's brace helps the visitors destroy Atletico

Substitute Jonathan David scored twice to give Lille a 3-1 win at Atlético Madrid in the Champions League.

The visitors were awarded a controversial penalty in the 71st minute when Koke appeared to make light contact with Benjamin Andre's foot in the hosts' penalty area.

Despite protests from Atletico's players and a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), the referee stuck to his decision and David calmly converted from the penalty spot to give Lille a 2-1 lead.

The Canadian striker put the French out of reach when his shot deflected off Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the 89th minute.

Former Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez opened the scoring in the eighth minute when he capitalized on a mistake by Ousmane Toure, who hesitated on the ball before converting a back pass.

But Edon Zhegrova brought the French level after the hour with a brilliant left-footed shot that flew over Oblak's head.

The result leaves Lille six points remaining after their impressive 1-0 win over Atletico's rivals Real Madrid earlier this month.

Diego Simeone's side, meanwhile, have won just one of their three Champions League games this season and face another tough test when they face Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain on November 6.
