Big Boy, the world's largest steam locomotive, will be in Houston this weekend

HOUSTON – The world's largest operating steam locomotive will arrive in Houston on Friday and stay there through the weekend.

Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 is on display on the train's Heartland of America Tour.

Built in 1941, the locomotive is 132 feet long and weighs 1.2 million pounds.

During World War II, 25 “Big Boys” were built, but only eight survived. No. 4014 is the only one in operation.

The train is expected to arrive in Navasota at 11 a.m. and make a brief stop. We then continue to Hempstead before continuing on to Houston.

Big Boy will be attending a private Union Pacific employee event on Saturday.

On Sunday, the train will open to the public at the Houston Amtrak station at 902 Washington Avenue.

The free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m

The train will leave Houston at 9 a.m. Monday morning and head to Bryan.
