Bills QB Josh Allen sets an NFL record with his touchdown in the first quarter against the Jets

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen didn't have to do much on the team's first drive of Week 6 Monday Night Football meeting with the New York Jets in which he only completed one pass for 14 yards in the nine-game series. Instead, Buffalo leaned on rookie running back Ray Davis throughout the drive, rushing for 48 yards on six carries in the fourth; The series culminated in a one-yard rushing score by Allen on a tush push.

While it wasn't the most stressful drive of Allen's career, it still ended with the signal-caller setting a new NFL record: According to Bills PR, Allen's first-quarter touchdown was the 232nd of his career, the most ever recorded by a player during his first seven seasons in NFL history.

The record shows how dominant Allen was early in his professional career, namely the last four seasons; He has won NFL MVP votes in three of the last four seasons and is the only player in league history to score over 40 touchdowns in four consecutive years. Allen's first score in Week 6 allowed him to pass Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes (231) in total points scored over the first seven seasons of his career; An important caveat is that Mahomes only appeared in one game as a rookie and did not score a touchdown.

Allen began the season ranked fourth on the seven-year total touchdowns list, tied for second after Week 1 with Pro Football Hall of Fame members Dan Marino and Peyton Manning (225 total points). He is now the sole owner of the first touchdown placed just one quarter in Week 6; He will look to extend his lead as the 2024 season progresses.
