Bob Costas makes an unpleasant comment about having to read the CNN commercials during the MLB playoff game

Bob Costas was caught on a hot mic Monday night making an awkward remark about having to read a promo for CNN during TBS' broadcast of the New York Yankees' playoff game against the Kansas City Royals.

With the Royals leading 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Costas was heard making the comment while on the phone with former New York Mets star Ron Darling.

“CNN promo? … Puts me in a difficult position,” he said.

It's unclear why a CNN ad would put him in a difficult position. CNN's parent company is Warner Bros. Discovery, which also owns TBS, TruTV, Max and TNT.

Costas joined CNN in 2020 as a sports journalist and has served as either a studio host or baseball game host for TBS since 2021. The promo that Costas was supposed to read may have put him in a difficult situation in terms of broadcasting.

The Royals defeated the Yankees 4-2 and evened the series at 1-1.

Salvador Perez got the Royals on the field with a solo home run that tied the game. Tommy Pham's RBI single brought Yuli Gurriel home to take the lead. Maikel Garcia brought home Garrett Hampson after Hampson brought home Pham. It capped a four-run fourth.

Garcia finished the game 4-of-5 with an RBI. Hampson was 2-for-2 on the night.

The Royals broke early in the game when Giancarlo Stanton's single hit Gleyber Torres from second base. Torres beat the throw and the Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
